Kerry Blackshear Jr. to the Gators!

Former Va. Tech power forward Kerry Blackshear Jr. committed to Florida over Kentucky and Tennessee last night, giving Mike White and the Gators the last piece they need to make a deep push in the 2020 NCAA Tournament.

What’s up?! The Gators certainly are after scoring the best grad transfer in college basketball last night when Kerry Blackshear Jr. chose UF over Tennessee, Kentucky and his former team, Virginia Tech.

Sorry about that, #BBN! (not really, though)

Kudos to Neil Blackmon, who is a great follow on Twitter, especially for Florida basketball fans. Blackmon alerted me of the probability the Gators had a great chance to land Blackshear, an Orlando native, several months ago. Check out his podcast, The Florida Basketball Hour.!

I’m sure many of you have noticed that I haven’t been posting much in recent months. That’s because I took a full-time gig with MajorWager.com. If you look up top (middle) on the home page, you’ll see “MajorWager.com” and you can find all my by-lines by clicking there. Or right here.

I’ll still be posting here on BrianEdwardsSports.com and still doing at least one column a week for VegasInsider once football season starts. And my picks will be for sale on both websites (MajorWager doesn’t sell picks, we just provide handicapping info for bettors looking to wager on hoops, pigskin and UFC.). Just like the MajorWager tab in the top-middle area of the BE Sports home page, you can check out all of my by-lines on VI where it says, “VegasInsider.com.” Or go here.

So…..let me hook you up with some recent links from my work over at MajorWager.

On the Gators getting Blackshear.

Robbie Lawler vs. Colby Covington will headline the UFC Newark card.

I was all over the Korean Zombie last week! And I wrote about the beatdown he dealt out to Renato Moicano this past Sunday.

–Watch out for Vandy this year. Despite the loss of Kyle Shurmur, the school’s all-time leader in career passing yards, the Commodores have a plethora of talent on offense. I wrote about the Commodores earlier this week.

You definitely want to check out this roundtable-like discussion I made into a column with five college football experts — KellyinVegas, Jay Greeson, Thor Nystrom, Dave Cokin and Brad Powers. All five are sharp and shared opinions galore on the 2019 college football season.

–With the addition of Blackshear, BetOnline.ag now has the Gators’ odds to win their third national championship at 33/1.

–This is a long read here, but it’s worth it. Dave McKenna on former NBA scout Pete Philo, who somehow carved out a helluva career in The Association despite being convicted of raping a 15-year-old girl and getting her pregnant when he was 26. So many things to unwrap in this story, but my favorite part was undoubtedly how the victim’s brother dealt out a ruthless assbeating to Philo that left him beaten and bandaged up for his mugshot a few days later!
