Samford’s Devlin Hodges calls his shot 209 Style

Samford QB Devlin Hodges threw for 227 yards and two TDs without an interception when his Bulldogs covered as 33-point underdogs in a 42-14 loss at UGA last year. He leads Samford into Tallahassee tonight to take on the Seminoles.

I doubt Nate Diaz has ever heard of Devlin Hodges, the SoCon’s Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. Likewise, no clue if Hodges has heard of the 209 product from Stockton, California.

Hell, I had never even heard of Hodges until a few days ago. The Samford quarterback is on pace to break all of Steve McNair’s career FCS passing records if he can remain healthy this season.

He has led Samford to back-to-back FCS playoff appearances. Hodges leads the Bulldogs into Doak Campbell Stadium tonight to take on the Seminoles, who are on a super-short week after taking a pimpslap from Va. Tech in Tallahassee this past Monday night.

Hodges completed 26-of-35 passes for 227 yards and two touchdowns without an interception in a 42-14 loss at Georgia, which was the eventual College Football Playoff runner-up, last year. Samford covered the number between the hedges as a 33-point underdog.

As of 1:45 p.m. Eastern, 5Dimes had FSU installed as a 36.5-point favorite. Samford was available on the money line for an enormous +8750 return (risk $100 to win $8,750). The total for ‘over/under’ wagers was 57.5 points.

When Diaz stunned Conor McGregor by second-round submission in the UFC 196 headlining bout that he accepted on less than two weeks of notice, he was interviewed by Joe Rogan in the Octagon afterward. He said, “Don’t act surprised, mother fuckers.”

Well, Hodges didn’t use any profanity today, but he has called his shot on Twitter. (see below).

I only have one pick going here early. I’m on Eastern Michigan +17 and the Eagles just forced Purdue to punt from deep in its own territory early in the third quarter. The Boilermakers are leading by a slim 12-10 margin.

Check out the rest of my picks here if you wish.

And if you need some advice on tonight’s games, Jay Greeson (5-1 ATS in Week 1) joins me at the 14-minute mark of my Games Galore 48 pod.

And if you need an eye-candy fix, the lovely Bianca Wilshin made her BE Sports debut this week.

Finally, I made a guest appearance on Golic and Wingo yesterday. I join them at the 12-minute mark here.

Best of luck with your bets and ballgames!
