The Westgate SuperBook in Las Vegas now has the Atlanta Hawks as the 5/1 favorites to win the NBA title. The Spurs, Warriors and Cavaliers share 6/1 odds.

I got a taste of Atlanta at 15/1 to win the East and 30/1 to win it all about 10 days ago. Unfortunately, I can’t say that I bought a 100/1 ticket before the season started.

The Hawks won for the 13th consecutive time both straight up and against the spread in Monday’s 93-82 win over Detroit as seven-point home favorites. They improved to 34-8 with a five-game lead over Washington in the East.

In the win over Detroit, Paul Millsap and Mike Scott scored 20 points apiece, while Al Horford added 14 points, seven assists, six rebounds, one steal, one blocked shot and just one turnover. Horford, the University of Florida product who won a pair of national titles in college, had a team-best +19 plus/minus rating against the Pistons.

Mike Budenholzer’s club will play eight of its next nine game in Atlanta at Philips Arena, including Wednesday’s showdown against the Pacers.

My NBA picks are hitting at a 20-3 clip since Dec. 27 and I’ve got one posted for Tuesday night if you’re interested in pure profit.
