The injury bug has once again struck the Ultimate Fighting Championship at the most inopportune time. Just a week after Jon ‘Bones’ Jones and Daniel Cormier came to blows at a media event promoting their UFC 178 clash in Las Vegas, Jones, the long-time light heavyweight kingpin, has been forced out of the bout with an injury.

The fight has been moved to the Jan. 3 show in Vegas where it’ll be the headliner for UFC 182.

According to MMAFighting.com, Jones has a torn meniscus in his knee and a sprained ankle.

As for UFC 178, the main event now becomes Demetrious ‘Mighty Mouse’ Johnson vs. Chris Cariaso. This fight for Johnson’s flyweight strap was going to be the co-main event at UFC 177 on Aug. 30. Most books have Johnson installed as an enormous -1300 favorite (risk $1,300 to win $100), while Cariaso is +800 on the comeback (risk $100 to win $800).

Most spots have had Jones as a -170 ‘chalk’ with Cormier listed as the +145 underdog. Jones has been favored by at least a -450 price in seven consecutive fights. This is the cheapest price you can get on Jones since he won the belt over Shogun Rua as a favorite in the -175ish range.
