The Ultimate Fighting Championship’s light heavyweight champion Jon ‘Bones’ Jones created a stir this week when he mentioned that he wanted to move up a weight class to fight heavyweight champ Cain Velasquez.

This isn’t the first time Jones has been mentioned in potential superfights. Before long-time middleweight kingpin Anderson Silva lost to current champ Chris Weidman, there was a lot of discussion about Silva and Jones squaring off.

For several years, Jones has stated that he eventually wants to move to heavyweight on a permanent basis. Now that move appears to be imminent.

But both fighters have to get past their next opponent first. Velasquez is slated to defend his strap against Fabricio Werdum, while Jones will square off with Glover Teixeira. Both fights are expected to take place in the spring of 2014.

BetOnline.com opened Velasquez as a -275 ‘chalk’ vs. Jones yesterday. Jones is a +215 underdog in this potential showdown.

Gray Maynard is a -140 favorite vs. Nate Diaz (+120) in Saturday’s main event at the TUF 18 Finale in Las Vegas.

Also, on Dec. 16 at UFC Fight Night 33, Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva is a -170 ‘chalk’ vs. Mark Hunt, who is a +140 underdog (risk $100 to win $140). In the co-main event, James Te Huna is a -130 favorite vs. Shogun Rua.
