When we last looked Thursday, 5Dimes had Alabama as a 24-point favorite vs. Va. Tech for their Week 1 matchup at the Georgia Dome. The line had opened at 22.5 and the number has now returned back to 22.5.

These schools also met in Atlanta for the 2009 season opener. The Crimson Tide won a 34-24 decision as a 6.5-point home favorite in Greg McElroy’s first career start at QB.

The biggest movers have been South Carolina and Vanderbilt. The Gamecocks were favored by 14.5 last Wednesday for their opener at home against North Carolina. As of late Monday afternoon, 5Dimes had Steve Spurrier’s team as a 9.5-point home ‘chalk.’

South Carolina and North Carolina haven’t met since 2007 when the Gamecocks won 21-15 in Chapel Hill. However, UNC took the cash as a seven-point home underdog.

Just five days ago, Vanderbilt was favored by 6.5 for its home opener versus Ole Miss. The line has now been reduced to two.

Vandy’s brand has never been better under the direction of James Franklin, who has taken the Commodores to back-to-back to bowl games. I think the same is true for the Ole Miss brand thanks to Hugh Freeze’s amazing first-year success both on the field and on the recruiting trail.

This will be a huge game for both teams, especially the Rebels, who have lost five of their last six against Vandy.
