–The bowl season kicks off Saturday with a pair of afternoon games on ESPN. The action starts at 1:00 p.m. Eastern at the New Mexico Bowl, where Arizona will take on Nevada as a nine-point favorite with a total of 77. Later in the day on the smurf turf in Boise, Utah St. and Toledo will collide in the Idaho Potato Bowl. The Aggies are double-digit favorites against the Rockets.

–For more of my breakdown of this doubleheader, check this out at VegasInsider.com.

–For my bowl package, click here. I finished No. 1 on VI in winning percentage and No. 2 in money among all VI handicappers with a 56-35 (62%) regular-season record.

–I mentioned how much I liked Texas Tech’s hire of former quarterback Kliff Kingsbury yesterday, and I’m even more bullish on the move after his intro presser. Kingsbury said, “One last request for [Texas Tech AD] Kirby [Hocutt], I was going to see if there’s any way possible we could get Cincinnati on the schedule next year.”

–ESPN has suspended Rob Parker indefinitely for his inappropriate comments about RG3 yesterday on the network’s dubious First Take show. Parker is the same a-hole who went way over the line and got too personal with Rod Marinelli at a post-game presser during the Lions’ nightmare 0-16 campaign a few years back.

–Atlanta WR Roddy White is ‘questionable’ for Sunday’s home game vs. the Giants due to a knee injury. White has never missed a game since coming into the league out of UAB. The Falcons are favored by 1.5 at most spots.

–With last night’s winner on the Knicks in their win and cover over the Lakers, my NBA record improved to 22-9 for the season. If you wish, check out my two picks for tonight here.

–Ya think Phil Jackson is enjoying watching the Lakers’ dive into mediocrity? Indeed, as if the dude needed an additional ego boost.

–A pair of unbeaten squads are set to collide Saturday night in Tucson when Arizona hosts Florida. The line should be out in the next 2-3 hours. If the Gators are underdogs, I’ll be all over ‘em.

–With La. Tech hiring Skip Holtz yesterday, I’m wondering if Derek Dooley ever gets another head-coaching gig.

–Keep in mind that my UFC picks were horrible last weekend but with that said, I LOVE Melvin Guillard at an inexpensive -125 price tomorrow night vs. Jamie Varner in Las Vegas. I also think Pat Barry is worth a shot for a plus-190 payout.

–Too busy with hoops and football to write UFC previews , so go check out my man Jason Floyd’s website for all your MMA news this weekend.

–Loyal readers know how much I abhor Bobby Petrino and apparently Jeff Pearlman (and nearly every other person on earth?) feels the same way. Here’s his take on Slime Time with BP at Western Ky.

–My thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the victims of today’s incomprehensible tragedy in Connecticut.
