‘Wonderboy’ vs. Till booked for UFC Liverpool headliner

Darren Till improved to 16-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the UFC when he starched Cowboy Cerrone by first-round knockout this past October. Now ‘The Gorilla’ gets No. 1 contender Wonderboy Thompson in his hometown in the UFC Liverpool main event in May.

Darren Till wanted a big fight to headline UFC Liverpool in his hometown. That desire was granted today when the promotion booked the unbeaten rising star against two-time welterweight title challenger and current No. 1 contender, Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson.

This 170-pound scrap will headline the May 27 card at Echo Arena.

5Dimes.eu opened Thompson as a -165 ‘chalk’ a few hours ago. The number dipped down to -130 but is back up to -150 right now (risk $150 to win $100). Till is the +110 underdog.

Thompson is 14-2-1 overall and 9-2-1 in 12 Octagon appearances. He fought current welterweight champ Tyron Woodley to a majority draw at UFC 205 before taking a majority decision loss to Woodley in the rematch at UFC 209.

Since then, the 35-year-old South Carolina product has fought only once, defeating Jorge Masvidal by unanimous decision at UFC 217.

Till is 16-0-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the UFC. The only blemish on ‘The Gorilla’s resume is a majority draw with Nicolas Dalby at UFC Dublin in October of 2015.

The 25-year-old Muay Thai specialist has 10 career knockouts and a pair of submission victories. Till is ranked seventh in the welterweight loop after dusting Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone by first-round KO in the UFC Gdansk main event in Poland last October.

Other fights on the UFC Liverpool card include Gunnar Nelson vs. Neil Magny, Jason ‘Mississippi Mean’ Knight vs. Makwan Amirkhani and Daniel Kelly vs. Tom Breese.
