UFC Notes: Faber-Edgar to headline Manila show

–The UFC announced a slew of fights Wednesday, including a matchup between Urijah Faber and Frankie Edgar that has been rumored for years. Edgar, the former 155-pound kingpin who now fights at featherweight, will welcome Faber back up to the 145-pound loop for the main event of the promotion’s first show in the Philippines. Edgar has won three fights in a row. Faber, who has won six of his last seven fights, is the former WEC featherweight champ but hasn’t fought at 145 in five years. I expect Edgar to be favored in the -300 range.

–In the main event at the Smoothie King Center in New Orleans on June 6, Ryan Bader and Daniel Cormier will collide in a crucial light-heavyweight showdown between two of the division’s best wrestlers. Bader has won four consecutive fights, including scalps of Ovince St. Preux and Phil Davis. I think Cormier will be an enormous favorite in the -400 range (minimum).

–Yoel Romero will face Jacare Souza in the co-main event for UFC on Fox 15 in Newark, New Jersey.

–Rashad Evans needed a second ACL surgery in January after his knee rejected the cadaver tissue from the first time he went under the knife. Evans will miss another 6-8 months.
