Washington dismisses nation’s leading shot blocker

Washington’s chances of making the NCAA Tournament took a big hit Monday night when the school announced the dismissal of center Robert Upshaw for a violation of team rules. Upshaw was also booted from the Fresno St. program that led to his transfer to UW.

Upshaw’s exit from Fresno St. was reportedly prompted by failed drug tests.

Upshaw was averaging 10.9 points, 8.2 rebounds and 4.4 blocked shots per game this season. He was leading the nation in blocks.

After starting the season 11-0, the Huskies have dropped five of their last eight games. They are currently No. 47 in the RPI with seven wins over Top-100 foes, including scalps over Oklahoma and San Diego St.

In its 2015 mock draft, NBADraft.net has Upshaw listed as the No. 43 selection.
