–You can check out my SEC preview and Dave Cokin’s take on the Big 12 in this footage provided by Don Best Sports from the LVH Handicapping Seminar in late August.

This link has more opinions from myself, Kenny White, Bruce Marshall and Cokin.

Here’s my weekly column for The Sporting News’s Linemakers website.

–Bo Pelini is in deep shit in Lincoln. First, his team blew a 21-3 lead and lost at home to UCLA, 41-21. Then he dissed legendary QB Tommie Frazier, and now he’s been caught dropping f-bombs galore toward Nebraska fans back in 2011.

–I was asked on twitter last night about a line for a potential Oregon-Alabama matchup on a neutral field. I went with Alabama -4.

–Bovada has Alabama as the +210 ‘chalk’ to win a third consecutive BCS Championship. The next-shortest odds belong to Oregon (4/1), Ohio St. (+650), Clemson (12/1), FSU (12/1), LSU (14/1), Stanford (14/1), Michigan (16/1) and Oklahoma St. (16/1). The shortest odds for one-loss teams belong to Georgia (22/1), South Carolina (75/1), Florida (100/1) and Texas A&M (100/1).

–With T.J. Grant unable to fight in December, Anthony ‘Showtime’ Pettis will now make his first title defense against Josh Thomson at UFC on Fox 9 on Dec. 14. The odds aren’t out yet but I would expect Pettis to be heavily favored in the -280 range.

Shaka Smart got a verbal committment yesterday from Terry Larrier, who is ranked No. 39 in the 2014 class at Rivals.com. Larrier is the most highly-rated recruit for VCU since 1990.

–Atlanta LB Sean Weatherspoon has a sprained foot and will be out for at least eight weeks. The Falcons placed him on short-term IR today, so he won’t be eligible to return until Week 11. Also, NFL.com is reporting that RB Steven Jackson is out for the next 2-4 weeks with an injury to his thigh.
