Merry Christmas to all NOT named Merril Hoge!

–I penned a college hoops column on VegasInsider.com last week, discussing some Surprises & Disappointments to date.
–I have two college basketball selections for today at the Diamond Head Classic. My first play (since it’s about to start) is Hawaii +8.5 against the Rebels. In the second game, keep in mind that Miami center Reggie Johnson (12.6 points per game and 10.1 rebounds) is ‘out’ with an ankle injury.
–In the finals of tonight’s event in Hawaii will be held at 10:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN2. Arizona will take on San Diego St. as a five-point favorite. These teams have one combined loss between them.
–In other non-college hoops news….Merry Christmas to Joey Porter, who has been in jail for days for cashing bad checks. Porter was let go today after paying a $70,000 debt to the Hard Rock Casino in Las Vegas. Porter enjoyed an outstanding NFL career mostly with the Steelers.
–Merry Christmas to Florida football head coach Will Muschamp, who guided the Gators to a spectacular 11-1 record and a trip to the Sugar Bowl. UF is a given to be ranked in the preseason top five next year.
–Merry Christmas to UF senior guard Kenny Boynton, who is struggling with his shot but will be will be ready to bust loose when SEC play begins.
–I’m hoping Michigan’s hoops squad can stay healthy because it is my pick to win the national title. I’m holding a 15/1 ticket.
–As for South Carolina, I’m wishing its football players good grades and no academic casualties because I LOVE the Gamecocks to pimpslap Michigan at the Outback Bowl.
–On a non-Christmas note, FUCK Merril Hoge! This guy has made it his mission to verbally maul Tim Tebow every chance he gets. The reality is that the only sample size we have of Tebow to judge him as a starting NFL quarterback came in Denver last year. He took a 1-4 team (that just traded its best WR Brandon Lloyd with the purpose of setting Tebow up to fail) and led them to the playoffs and a postseason win. That’s it, yet Hoge is always bashing the guy and yesterday, he went way too far. Hoge attacked Tebow’s character. There’s too many instances of how Tebow has demonstrated his unfathomable willingness to spend time with less fortunate others, many of whom are fighting cancer and going through other life-threatening illnesses. To attack Tebow’s character is beyond ignorant! Hoge is a classless d-bag. I’ve got more but in the interest of the holiday season, I’ll stop there.
