For the second time since September, the much-anticipated showdown between Georges ‘Rush’ St-Pierre and Nick Diaz has been cancelled. More important, St-Pierre has a torn anterior cruciate ligament and will be out of action for at least the next 10 months.

Carlos ‘The Natural Born Killer’ Condit will step in for GSP and face Diaz in the main event at UFC 143 in Las Vegas on Feb. 4 (Super Bowl Weekend).

Diaz and GSP were initially scheduled to meet at UFC 137, but the former missed a pair of required press conferences to promote the bout. Therefore, UFC President Dana White decided to give Condit the shot at GSP’s belt, but the welterweight kingpin had to pull out of that fight less than two weeks beforehand due to a knee injury.

Meanwhile, Diaz beat B.J. Penn in the main event at UFC 137 and then proceeded to call out the 170-pound champ in a post-fight interview in the Octagon. When GSP became furious about Diaz’s blatant disrespect towards him, White reluctantly agreed to pull Condit from his fight with GSP and give Diaz the shot at the belt at UFC 143.

But that’s now off the table and the Diaz-Condit winner will become the interim welterweight champion while GSP recovers from a significant injury.

In other news over the last few days, the UFC on Fox 2 card slated for Jan. 28 in Chicago has added several intriguing bouts. Michael Bisping, fresh off his fourth straight win last weekend over Jason ‘Mayhem’ Miller, will collide with Demian Maia in a middleweight clash.

Also, Chael Sonnen will face Mark Munoz and Phil Davis vs. Rashad Evans is the main event.
